Hey, I love Patrick Carman’s books. At least The Land of Elyon books! I was wondering if he was Jewish. There are a lot of Jewish-like things in those books. Like Elyon. Elyon is one of the Jewish names for God.

random jumbled thoughts about how moved I am by the Land of Elyon books. I wanted to express my deep appreciation to you for these stories. I often read Young Adult stories and I see from website that these stories are rated for even younger readers. I am an elder, maybe even a significantly elder person in number of years. When I just finished The Tenth City yesterday I was moved to tears several times as the story began to conclude. And I thought of my father, who passed a little more than 20 years ago, one week after my 50th birthday and what a special man he was.Remembering was powerful. In order to really know that deep specialness, one had to pay attention, and I did. In a way his greatness was subtle, and he was still recognized, I often thought by people who didn’t really know why.

I am quite an animal person, so a young girl who gets to talk with animals who work together for good certainly gets my attention. And the metaphors create such richness that as you know the stories can operate on many levels.

A young girl as the center of the story also much appreciated. I didn’t grow up with many female heroes given that time before the re-emergence of the women’s movement in late 60s-early 70s. It was Alec with the Black Stallion shipwrecked on a deserted island. I am glad that Alec had that experience, and I wanted a story with a girl having her own adventure, although I don’t know that I could have articulated that at the time. .

I love the cover art. It seems just perfect. I love the subtle changes as she gets a little older.

I am deeply moved by these books. Thank you.
