Synopsis
12-year-old Alexa, has spent her life living behind the four-story walls that surround her village and the three others that make up Bridewell Common. But Alexa’s curiosity for what lies in the hills and forests on the other side sends her on a daring adventure into a secret world in which nothing is as it seems to be.

The Dark Hills Divide
Inquisitive twelve-year-old Alexa Daley is spending another summer in the walled town of Bridewell. This year, she is set on solving the mystery of what lies beyond the walls. Legend says the walls were built to keep out an unnamed evil that lurks in the forests and The Dark Hills. But what exactly is it that the townspeople are so afraid of?
As Alexa begins to unravel the truth, pushing beyond the protective barrier she’s lived behind all her life, she discovers a strange and ancient enchantment. Armed with an unexpected new power, Alexa exposes a danger that could destroy everything she holds dear – and change The Land of Elyon forever.

Beyond the Valley of Thorns
Alexa thought her troubles were over when she defeated the man who threatened to bring down Bridwell from within. But now that the walls around her have fallen, a new, unexpected threat has risen from outside. Suddenly, Alexa is involved in a battle much, much larger than her own life-a battle in which she is destined to play a key role.
In order to help good defeat evil, Alexa and her friends must venture father that they’ve ever gone before-confronting giants, bats, ravenous dogs, and a particularly ghoulish mastermind in order to bring peace to The Land of Elyon.

Hi Mr. Carman! I am a total bookworm and I bought The Dark Hills Divide and I started reading it and i thought, ‘wow this is a really good book. maybe i should do it for my book report.’ So I looked down to see who the author was and I was SO shocked when I found out it was you! I have previously read all of your Atherton books and I fell in love with them!!! I was super happy when I saw that I was falling for your other books!!!

I’ve read the whole series from when it first came out, and i have to say its one of my favorites! I really hope you continue the story of Alexa’s adventures with all the friends that have come along…and to anyone who hasnt read them all YOU ARE MISSING OUT!!! XD
I have read the land of Elyon the first 3 books but the room is not in Spanish and I can not read you could do something?
Do I need to read the Prequel to understand what is going on in the 4th book? I read the 1st three but I’m not sure which one to read next

Do you have any plans to release this series for e-readers. It is one of my favorites and I would love to have it on my nook.
I think there are plans for an ebook edition through Scholastic, but I’m not 100% sure. Search for ‘scholastic reader’ on the nook, see what comes up. I think they’re doing a proprietary set up or something. The author is often the last to know! Thanks for reading – PC

Hi. Mr. Patrick, I’ve read the first 3 books, and I’ve got a question. Why does the girl say she has 3 days left in Beyond The Valley of Thorns, but she says she has 5 days left in the Tenth City. When I read “5 days” it totally threw me. Why the change?
The change is shown between these pgs: Beyond the Valley of Thorns on pg. 208 and in The Tenth City on pg. 13.
Sometimes authors make little mistakes. I think this is one! PC

When I was in elementay I read books 1-3 and into the mist but I did not know that there was a book 4 stargazer so now that I am in highschool I am rereading the books and hoping to find the 4 one soon. Apart that the land of elyon was my favorite book series family and friends said I looked like Alexa Daley.
I’m now a few months from 30 and I love, love, love the adventures of Alexa Daley. It’s such a pure, fun, read and (gasp) manages to excite the imagination without vampires, or warlocks. Some day soon I will pass the series to my 10 year old son. Waiting, a little less than patiently, for him to finish the Harry Potter series. The characters are delightful and rich and, I believe, a fun read for any age. Kudos to you.
I jsut wanted to tell you that the dark hills divide is an amazing book. I am hooked. I didn’t realize that there were 4 others until i started my book project for my reading class and i am going to search high and low to find the other 4 books so i can find out what happenes.

I have to say im in love with the land of elyon series. I spent my whold middle school years reading them and now im in highschool. I decided to read the whole series again.You have to write another book. Maybe about alexs flying adventures, or the next generation of great heros in the land of elyon. Please mr camen. I would just die if one other book came out. please im begging you. im the biggest fan of this searies and just…i need another book. This book has tought me to be brave and adventurous. PLEASE!
I have to say, these books are amazing! I mean they are AMAZING! I highly recommend. :]
oh and one more thing, my friend HATES reading books and i told her to at least get started on Skeleton Creek and in the morning at school when i had breakfest, she came and sat down next to me READING THE BOOK!!!! i was amazed she was reading and when i told her why, she said she could’nt stop reading it was to good.my teacher walked by her and said “now your reading?maybe you can finish your book report in two days then.” in the two days she finally did her FIRST book report and got a ’95′ on it!!! the smartest guy in the class got a 85 and my teacher was so impressed by her grade she gave her no homework the whole week!!! your a wonder Patrick Carman!

You are a really talented writer and hope you never stop writing books becuase from i can tell, everyone loves your books including me.Ive just started the Land Of Elyon series this week and im on the secend book and cant stop reading.I also just finished reading the Atherton series and they were the best books ive read.When i checked out Beyond the Vally of Thorns, the libarian said she read all of your books and said she was finishing up the Atherton sereis.She said she enjoyed reading The Land of Elyon series and that shes going to get Trackers 2 for her libary.
