Hey Patrick Carman fans, big news for 39 Clues!
Almost exactly a year ago, director Brett Ratner inherited directing responsibilities from Steven Spielberg (I know, the idea seems crazy to me too) to helm an adaptation of the young adult book series The 39 Clues. However, now Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum) is taking over the adaptation of the 11-book series follows two siblings of the Cahill Family who have to choose between inheriting $1 million or taking on a perilous treasure hunt for 39 clues which will make them the most powerful and influential people on the planet. The appeal of the series goes past the books though as it includes an interactive element as well.
Fans can also purchase cards and play an interactive online game that gives clues to a mystery for fans to win a cash prize if they figure it out first. In a mix of Spy Kids and National Treasure, the film will follow Dan and Amy, adolescent siblings who discover they are part of the world’s most powerful family and embark on a globe-trotting treasure hunt, competing against other descendants of the same family.
Deadline says the idea is for the film to launch a new franchise, something that Levy is familiar with following Night at the Museum and Real Steel (which has a sequel on the way). Coincidentally enough it was Spielberg who wanted Levy to take on the latter robot boxing film and he’s still producing this new hopeful franchise too. This sounds like it could be fun, but I hope there’s more motivation behind the film rather than just more merchandising to go along with the already lucrative books and other materials. About the Black Circle: Amy and Dan make a direct assault on a Lucian stronghold beneath the Kremlin in Moscow. Though they’re trying to find out what happened to a Russian treasure stolen by the Nazis during WWII, this search may be more personal. The two have a chance to learn the truth about the fire that killed their parents. The Man in Black has also been sighted — all agents be warned!
